Nancy & Ron McFarlane Receive Distinguished Pharmacy Alumni Award From Virginia Commonwealth University

June 7, 2010 – Medpro Rx, Inc. CEO Nancy McFarlane and COO Ron McFarlane received the Distinguished Pharmacy Alumni Award from Virginia Commonwealth University. The McFarlanes were recognized for the contributions they have made to the profession of pharmacy.

Accomplishments of MedPro Rx, Inc. include being recognized as one of the nation’s top 5,000 fastest-growing businesses by Inc. magazine in 2009, one of the top women-owned businesses in the Triangle by the Triangle Business Journal in 2009, and a 2010 Patriotic Employer by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The company is also a frequent sponsor of local events such as the 2010 Friends of Scouting Campaign Breakfast Kick-Off, the 2010 “Hearts For Hemophilia” Casino Night, the 2009 North Carolina Hemophilia Walk, and the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure.

“We are honored to receive the Distinguished Pharmacy Alumni Award from VCU,” said Nancy McFarlane. “This award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the many people that have helped make MedPro Rx a success. We could not have achieved this honor without them.”

Nancy worked as a retail pharmacist and spent 15 years at Raleigh Community Hospital after graduating from VCU in 1980. She was elected to the Raleigh City Council in 2007 and is a strong advocate of issues surrounding responsible development, neighborhood protection, water conservation, transportation, jobs and quality of life.
• She is a member of the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the American Pharmaceutical Association.
• Ron, along with Nancy, graduated from VCU’s School of Pharmacy in 1980 and pursued a career in the pharmaceutical industry. He served as vice chairman of the national board of directors for the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc. and is currently serving on the 2010 WakeUP Wake County board of directors as its vice chairman.
• The McFarlanes started MedPro Rx, Inc. in Raleigh in 2002. They have two daughters, Katie and Emily, who have both graduated from college, and one son, Reynolds, a student at Appalachian StateUniversity. .
