Research done by North Carolina State University researchers have shown that people living with hemophilia in the developing world are not getting the treatment that their condition requires. Dr. Jeff Stonebraker, a researcher at North Carolina State University, led the study that examined the occurrence of hemophilia and its treatment. The president of the World Federation of Hemophilia said that the research can be used to look at how hemophilia has been treated and how future treatment can be improved. Stonebraker’s research showed that the occurrence of hemophilia in the developed world is 12.8 per 100,000 males, whereas in the developing world it is 6.6 per 100,000. The study suggests that this is due to the availability of factor treatment.
